Privacy Rules at Spice Island Beach Resort's Four Pool Suites September 18, 1997 Share 1 -- Reed Travel FeaturesST. GEORGE'S, Grenada -- Spice Island Beach Resort may have a hard time getting its guests out of their rooms and onto the beach. Well, at least those guests who are staying in one of the four new royal private-pool suites, which are so private that landscaping shields the room from the outside world. The private pools allow the guests to dip and dunk at any time of the day or night.Royston Hopkin, owner and managing director of the 56-room resort on Grand Anse Beach, said that four original suites were gutted and refitted with amenities and extras to create the royal private-pool suites. One of the unique features of the units is the canopied private fitness area, set in the gardens, with a stationary exercise bike and a large redwood sauna, big enough to hold three people comfortably.Spice Island Beach Resort reportedly is the only Caribbean resort to offer guests a private in-room sauna. Each suite is 1,473 square feet and features a bedroom with a king-size bed, a separate living room, a bathroom, a private pool, a sun deck, a personal fitness area and a flower garden. Guests enter through a wooden door, with the fitness area on one side, the gardens on the other and the pool and sun deck several steps away.Inside, the amenities include a stocked minibar and a television console with a 27-inch color set and a music center with stereo, cassette and CD player. Each unit has a coffeemaker, a radio, a direct-dial telephone, a hair dryer, a ceiling fan, air conditioning and a safe.Bathrooms are outfitted with marble floors, double wash basins and double whirlpools. Accommodations are decorated in a Caribbean motif with pastel hues, custom-designed rattan furniture and local art.The private pool measures 16 feet by 20 feet. A sun deck with chaise lounges and a patio table complements the pool. The royal private-pool suites are priced at $550 per room, per night, double, through Dec. 14. Rates cover accommodations, full breakfasts and dinners daily, room service from 7:45 a.m. to 10 p.m., nonmotorized water sports, tennis, the use of the fitness rooms, bicycles and golf greens fees at the nearby nine-hole Grenada Golf Club. For reservations or further information, agents can call (800) 223-9814 or CHARMS at (800) 742-4276.The Web site address is http://www.cpscaribnet.com/ads/spice/spice.html.
