Royal Scotsman sets luxury rail programs

EDINBURGH, Scotland -- The Royal Scotsman kicked off another season of luxury rail tours, including independent programs plus corporate and incentive group charters.

Through Nov. 1, two- and four-night options can be booked.

Rates for the Royal Scotsman include accommodations in twin or single State Cabins, all meals and beverages, entertainment, sightseeing, taxes and crew gratuities.

Customized itineraries can feature a wide range of of historic and cultural attractions, plus activities such as golf or fishing. Above, a stateroom on the Royal Scotsman. Two-night tours cost $2,450 per person and four-night tours cost $4,250 per person.

  • The four-night Classic Tour takes travelers from the Lowlands to the Highlands. Starting in Edinburgh, the train travels to Dalmally, Taynuilt, Dunkeld, Carrbridge, Boat of Garten, Plockton, Kyle of Lochhalsh, Isle of Skye, Keith and Dundee.
  • Highlights include a visit to the Inverawe Smokehouse for a special tasting in the owner's home; Ballindalloch Castle, home of the Macpherson-Grant family since 1546; the 200-acre Royal Zoological Society's Highland Wildlife Park; Eilean Donan Castle, built around 1220 and setting for the film "Highlander," and the Strathisla Distillery, home of Chivas Regal.

  • During the two-night Highland Fling, passengers travel through the southern and central Highlands to the Lowlands of East Scotland.
  • Beginning in Edinburgh, this tour visits Carrbridge, Boat of Garten, Elgin and Keith. Sites visited include Johnstons Woollen Mill and the Strathisla Distillery.

  • The two-night Caledonian Retreat takes guests through the southern Highlands beginning in Edinburgh and traveling to Dalmally, Taynuilt, Blair Antholl, Perth and Stirling.
  • On board this tour, guests can visit the Inverawe Smokehouse; Glamis Castle, the setting for Shakespeare's "Macbeth;" and Gleneagles, the exclusive 850-acre resort.

    The Royal Scotsman offers corporate and private charters for incentive groups, product launches, anniversaries or special celebrations.

    Special discounts are offered for groups between 10 and 24 passengers and for private charters.

    Customized itineraries featuring different historic and cultural attractions and activities such as golf or fishing are available.

    The Royal Scotsman can operate charters outside of its standard April through November season.
