Small Luxury Hotels packages cut costs, enhance amenities By Felicity Long / December 08, 2008 Share 1 -- Studies show that upscale travelers are relatively undeterred from vacationing by the volatile economy, but that doesn't meant they don't like a bargain.With that in mind, member properties of Small Luxury Hotels of the World unveiled ski vacation packages designed to trim costs and add amenities and services to luxury getaways.The Manor on Golden Pond in Holderness, N.H., created a three-night package that includes a two-day ski pass with private lessons; a gourmet, slope-side picnic; afternoon tea and chilled champagne; and a choice of spa treatments.Priced from $780 per room, per night, excluding tax, the special is available Dec. 1 to March 27.The Trapp Family Lodge, near Stowe Mountain Resort and Spruce Peak in Vermont, unveiled a two-night package that includes daily cross-country ski rentals, a private, hourlong cross-country ski lesson, a three-course dinner and daily breakfast. The special also includes a 20% discount on equipment rentals.The Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa in the Adirondack Mountains of Lake Placid, N.Y., is offering a one-night package that combines breakfast and a one-day lift ticket to Whiteface Mountain. Available Nov. 30 to March 31, the rate begins at $320 per room, per night, excluding tax and service charges.In Europe, the Hotel Yastrebets Wellness & Spa in Borovets, Bulgaria created a weeklong package that includes daily breakfast and dinner and a six-day ski pass with rental equipment for two. Valid Jan. 15 to March 3, the special is priced from about $300 per room, per night, including taxes.Mont Blanc Hotel Village, located at the foot of the Mont Blanc mountain range in Italy, designed a three-night stay with daily in-room breakfast, a tasting-menu dinner with wine, a two-day ski pass, shuttle service to Courmayeur and La Thuile ski resorts and unlimited access to the hotel spa.Valid Dec. 5 to 19 and Jan. 11 to April 30, the package starts at about $1,260 per room, per three-night stay, including tax and service charges.Plan includes tobogganingThe Alpin Royal Wellness Refugium & Resort Hotel in Italy's South Tyrol has a seven-night plan with tobogganing, discounts on ski passes and rentals and his-and-her spa treatments.Available Jan. 31 to April 13, the package is priced from about $1,765 per room for the week, including taxes and service charges.La Pleta Hotel & Spa in Spain's Baquiera-Beret ski resort is offering a seven-night ski package with daily breakfast, a ski bag and a selection of afternoon drinks. The package is priced from about $2,400 per room, including taxes and service charges, for the week from Dec. 4 to April 19.Sun Mountain Lodge in China, set to open in December, created a three-night introductory special that bundles daily VIP ski pass with rental equipment, a 90-minute Elements spa treatment, daily breakfast, roundtrip train ticket to and from Harbin's train station and roundtrip transfers to and from Harbin Airport.
