South of the border: Mexicana to code share with AA By Jorge Sidron / February 23, 2004 Share 1 -- exicana, Mexico's second-largest airline, said it will sign a code-share agreement with American Airlines in April that will include more than 500 roundtrip flights each week between the U.S. and Mexico. It will enable American's passengers to fly to 21 new cities in Mexico, including Merida and Oaxaca. The agreement enables members of each airline's frequent flyer programs to accrue miles on either airline.Mexicana operates 25% of the flights between Mexico and the U.S. and flies from 17 cities in the U.S. The partnership comes two months after Mexicana terminated its code-share agreement with United Airlines.• • •Aeromexico Vacations launched packages to Mexico from Boston to coincide with Aeromexico's new nonstop service from Boston to Mexico City, which started Feb. 13.The new service from Boston will offer continuing service to Acapulco, Cancun, Ixtapa, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. Packages from Boston will include hotel accommodations, roundtrip air fare and airport transfers.Three-night packages from Boston start at $594 per person, double, in Acapulco; $644 in Cancun; $724 in Ixtapa; $749 in Los Cabos; and $799 in Puerto Vallarta.Aeromexico Vacations can be purchased via the major GDSs, through VAX VacationAccess or by calling (800) 245-8585.• • •United Vacations expanded its Mexico product line by adding Cancun and the Riviera Maya to its existing itineraries.United recently launched nonstop Saturday flights between Washington (Dulles) and Cancun, enabling United to offer air-inclusive packages to Cancun and the Riviera Maya.Seven-night packages are available for travel Feb. 21 to Dec. 31 and include accommodations, roundtrip air fare, hotel transfers and taxes.Cancun packages start at $579 per person, double, at the Oasis Beach and Spa.
