Star Clippers sets Cancun voyages

CANCUN -- Star Clippers in November will roll out a new itinerary from Cancun that takes in several Mexican-Caribbean destinations.

To promote the cruises, which will be operated aboard the 170-passenger Star Clipper, the line is offering a $400 discount per person on all bookings made between Nov. 17 and Dec. 15.

The company also is offering free roundtrip air fare from Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami and New York (Kennedy) during the same period. Roundtrip air fare of $95 is available from Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles.

Stops featured on the cruise include Cancun and Cozumel, along with a number of offshore islands fringing Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.

The ship will set sail from Puerto Calica in Cancun on Sunday evenings and spend the next full day at sea. The ship will sail past Tulum and the coast of the Rivera Maya.

Tuesday's port-of-call is Cochino Grande in Honduras. The Smithsonian Institution owns most of this archipelago, which is a popular spot for snorkeling and diving.

Wednesday's stop is the island of Roatan off the coast of Honduras. Roatan is a popular destination for snorkelers and scuba divers who are attracted to the caverns and coral gardens that dot its reefs.

Passengers also can visit the Iguana Reserve on the outskirts of French Harbour or mix with locals at a number of restaurants and pubs, including the legendary Hole in the Wall Bar.

On Thursday, the Star Clipper sails to Dangriga in Belize, a country known for its rain forests, orchids and Mayan ruins.

Options at this port include an overnight tour to Guatemala and the ancient city of Tikal, once the center of the Mayan Empire.

Friday's stop is Goff's Cay in Belize, where passengers can dive, snorkel, raft down the Belize River, take in the Baboon Sanctuary or set out to see the important Mayan ruins of Altun Ha or Lamani.

On Saturday, guests return to Mexico with a visit to the resort city of Cozumel, where they can spend the day on the beach or sightseeing before an evening departure to Cancun for the trip home.

Rates start at $1,145 per person, double.
