SuperClubs is coming to town By Paul Felt / September 12, 2002 Share 1 -- KINGSTON, Jamaica -- The rebranding of two inclusive resorts will mark SuperClubs' foray into the Dominican Republic market. The firm signed a management agreement with Sol de Plata Hotels and Resorts, which owns the properties in Puerto Plata and Punta Cana. The 471-room Puerto Plata Beach & Spa Resort and the 733-room Punta Cana Spa & Casino Beach Resort will be rebranded as Breezes properties in December, following the completion of renovations at both resorts.John Issa, SuperClubs' executive chairman, said the deal was the right opportunity at the right time to enter the market.SuperClubs was not looking to expand into the Dominican Republic, according to Issa; opportunities had popped up "from time to time over a number of years, but they weren't suitable," he said. However, Sol de Plata approached SuperClubs "with a desire to rebrand the two properties and strike a stronger presence in the North American market," he said. Both resorts previously were managed by LTI of Germany."The product in the Dominican Republic has been growing, both in quantity and quality, for a number of years now," Issa said. "The destination is getting more notice in the U.S. market, although it is still heavily oriented toward the European and Canadian markets."Both properties will be family-friendly and will offer children's facilities and entertainment similar to those at Breezes' properties in Brazil and Curacao, Issa said. For more information, call (800) GO-SUPER or visit www.superclubs.com.
