According to published reports, Broadway
theaters and the stagehands union, Local 1, reached a tentative
deal on Wednesday to end the 19-day strike that has kept New York's
theater district dark since Nov. 10. Local 1 is expected to vote on
the deal on Dec. 9.
According to
Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of the League of American
Theaters and Producers, "performances for all shows will begin
[Thursday night]."
In a statement
posted on NYC.gov,
Mayor Michale Bloomberg said: "The announcement of a tentative
agreement between the Broadway stagehands and theater producers is
great news not just for everyone who earns their living on or
around Broadway, but for everyone who lives in, works in, or visits
New York City. I have always believed that the best way to resolve
labor disputes is around the bargaining table, and tonight's
tentative agreement proves how true that is."
