Trump Sonesta Beach to open with 15% pay By Henry Magenheim / October 29, 2002 Share 1 -- SUNNY ISLES, Fla. -- The 400-unit Trump International Sonesta Beach Resort here will begin welcoming guests on Jan. 17 and is offering a 15% commission to agents who book clients for stays between that date and May 31. The $80 million, 32-story property is accepting reservations by phone and through the GDS.David Fine, regional director of marketing for Sonesta, said the property has group business booked for mid-January and later."High-end boards of directors and corporate meetings" are the types of groups suited to the hotel, Fine said, noting that it will offer 22,000 square feet of meetings space."Agents are expected to generate about 10% of the resort's business during the first year," he said.Peak winter rates, from Jan. 17 through April 30, are $295 to $395 per night for a deluxe room, $345 to $445 for a deluxe studio, $395 to $495 for a junior suite, $520 to $670 for a one-bedroom suite and $690 to $975 for a two-bedroom suite.The smallest guest room will be 450 square feet, Fine said. Meanwhile, the hotel's 78 one- and two-bedroom suites will range from 1,650 to 1,800 square feet and will have full kitchens. The bilevel Presidential Suite will have an outdoor Jacuzzi.Every room will have a safe, a stocked minibar, a coffeemaker, a microwave oven, high-speed Internet access, data ports, a two-line phone, cable TV with Web access, a CD player/radio unit, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and individual climate control. Guest units will overlook the Intracoastal Waterway or the Atlantic Ocean.Of the Trump's 400 privately owned condo units, Fine said about 325 are expected to be available in a permanent rental pool for use by regular leisure and corporate guests."This will be seamless to the guest," Fine said. "They won't know they will be staying in a private owner's unit because all the units' furniture will be the same."The guest mix initially will be 50% leisure and 50% corporate, he said.Dining facilities will include a 160-seat oceanview and poolview restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It will be open for all meals.
