WCW begins construction on Nitro Grill February 27, 1999 Share 1 -- LAS VEGAS -- It wasn't exactly your average groundbreaking, but, then again, the WCW Nitro Grill isn't your average restaurant. World Championship Wrestling (WCW) officially began construction on its first WCW Nitro Grill here with a ceremonial "wall breaking" attended by WCW stars "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Paige as well as WCW president Eric Bischoff, Sitka Restaurant Group president Karl Rogers and WCW Nitro Grill general manager Lance Graulich. Scheduled to open this spring in the Excalibur Hotel & Casino, the WCW Nitro Grill -- which replaces Wild Bill's Saloon & Steakhouse -- will offer 16,780 square feet of dining space and seating for more than 350 people.The restaurant, which will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, will feature a menu of burgers, steaks and specialty beverages -- with names like the Nitro body slam and the back breaker -- that follows the restaurant's slogan "Where the Big Boys Eat.""Top rope specialties" will include a 22-ounce black angus porterhouse steak and Nelson's famous baby back ribs; other offerings include the "crushrooms" appetizer or the half-pound piledriver burger.Prices will range from $5.95 to $19.95 per person for lunch and from $6.95 to $24.95 per person for dinner. The decor will feature WCW memorabilia and big screens showing live and recorded WCW wrestling events, while at the gift shop, patrons can purchase WCW and Nitro Grill merchandise such as T-shirts, hats and posters.The grill, which will host scheduled appearances by WCW stars as well as impromptu celebrity visits, is being developed by Sitka Restaurant Group, in conjunction with the WCW.The partnership plans several other WCW Nitro Grills in the U.S. and worldwide.
