Yellowstone gets new visitor center By Jerry Limone / August 25, 2010 Share 1 -- After 10 years of planning and construction, Yellowstone National Park opened a new visitor education center at Old Faithful. A smaller visitor center built in the late 1960s was demolished to make way for the new two-story structure. Multimedia and interactive exhibits inform visitors about what makes a geyser erupt, what creatures thrive in the hot spring waters and how the park's volcanic past is visible today. The nonprofit Yellowstone Park Foundation contributed $15 million of the total cost of design, construction and exhibits. This was matched by $12 million in federal funds. Yellowstone draws 3 million visitors per year.
