Editorials Be All That You Can Be December 03, 1997 Share 1 -- "Make Big $$$ Being a Travel Agent!" was the intriguing line over a message on the Internet that said, among other things, "In your spare time you could add $50,000 more to your income. . Save your friends and family big $$$ on their next trip. . Step by step, we will will walk you through our program so you can collect those big commissions." A San Diego company called Future WT claimed that all this was available for just $149. Customers paying by money order or credit card would have their programs forwarded the same day, according to the message. It's only money, right? So Insider mailed an order, with American Express credit card details, to the P.O. Box listed, and waited. And waited. Ten days later, when the program had not yet arrived -- and when American Express reported that the credit card in question had not been billed -- Insider sent of another order, with the same credit card information, and waited. And waited. More than a month later, Future WT has yet to send the program or demand payment from American Express. Nobody at Future WT could be found to explain the operation; there is no telephone listing for the company. Oh, well. Maybe this isn't a good time to be changing careers, anyway.
