Editorials Flush With Success July 31, 1997 Share 1 -- Industry conferences usually have themes, but Insider was not quite sure of the theme at a recent confab where the trade show booths were dominated by carpet samples, solar energy panels, weightlifting equipment and toilets. Toilets? Yes, it was the Flushmate display, right in the middle of a busy aisle at the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference on Puerto Rico. We were intrigued to witness a lot of animated delegates gathering round each time a company representative flushed the thing. The big deal is that it is an energy-efficient, water-conserving, almost-silent machine with "strong flushing action," according to Fred the Flushmate Flack. And when the onlookers got bored -- trust us, it happened -- they quickly moved on to the next exhibit: the self-flushing, waterless urinal.
