Editorials Frequent Pint Plan June 03, 1998 Share 1 -- The Brits are very serious about their pubs -- and their suds. So serious, in fact, that on a recent visit, Insider found an article in the Daily Telegraph with the headline "Drinkers Raise a Glass to Pubs' New Loyalty Card." Billed as the first of its kind, the card features an animated virtual pint that fills up as "points" are accumulated. At Bass taverns -- it was Bass that dreamed up the plan -- drinkers using the card receive a point for every pound spent. The thermal-imaging technology lets cardholders see how close they are to their free drink as the glass of beer on the card fills up. If all goes well with the beer drinkers' version, the company said, it may launch a card for free pizza.
