Editorials Next Year, the '3-peat' January 22, 1998 Share 1 -- It's that time of year again: The tourism boards of England, Scotland and Wales and cosponsor Cannon Hygiene announced the winners of the 10th annual Loo of the Year Awards. Winner of the award in the National Heritage category was Thistle Hotels' One Whitehall Place, in London. Pictured here, along with some award-winning plumbing, are two of the property's proud honorees, general manager Mark Gannon and house manager Ann Whelan. Not only did One Whitehall Place beat out 600 other entrants, but last year's winner in the National Hotel category was another Thistle property, the Tower Hotel, also in London. "The award," according to its sponsors, "is recognized as the standard-setter for public washroom management." Who, we wonder, would be the competition?
