Editorials Pillow Talk June 17, 1998 Share 1 -- So what do hotels do with worn-out carpets? It's one of those questions that's been nagging away at Insider for some time. We stumbled (literally) on one answer at the Cotton House hotel on Mustique. Large, stuffed, plumped rectangular pillows are heaped, piled and strewn about the grounds. Their placement is quite arbitrary: It's wherever the last person dropped them. The pillow covers are worn sections of Dhurrie carpets, faded and sun-bleached and pliable. Cotton House guests are free to sit on, recline on, lie on, read on or prop up on them and to drag the pillows from sun to shade, to the beach, to the pool. When it rains, staff members stack the pillows under the nearest tree to stay dry.
