Editorials Plug December 13, 2010 Share 1 -- Our inner tree-hugger is all green-eyed over the prospect of plug-in electric cars at major car rental outlets. Travelers, however, may need a little incentive, which is where a little travel industry cooperation can help the planet. As we report in our news pages today, Hertz is talking about partnerships with corporations and hotels that would enable business travelers to rent an electric car at the airport, drive to a corporate site where charging is available, and then to a similarly equipped hotel, eliminating any anxiety about running out of juice. This makes good green sense and good business sense, and we hope that other car rental firms and hotels give some thought to these kinds of relationships, not just for business travelers but for leisure travelers, too. Electric cars by themselves will not save us from ourselves, but they can help, and we can help.
