Thank you, ARC

Thank you, ARC.

Several weeks ago in this space we gave ARC a verbal spanking for flaws in its monthly report of agency sales that, over a period of years, had obscured or mislabeled some components of "total sales," the big number we report every month.

Within days, ARC President Mike Premo acknowledged the shortcomings in the monthly report and promised to make the statistics more transparent and understandable in September.

He delivered.

As we report in the news pages today, the new format contains definitions for the various line items and breaks out the old "taxes and fees" category to clearly distinguish between ticket taxes and fees paid to governments and fees and surcharges retained by the airlines.

As an added bonus, the "Dashboard" tool on ARC's website enables users to make comparisons with previous periods using the new categories, apples to apples.
