Luxury barge operator sets 'two-for-one' deal

French Country Waterways rolled out a Two for One program, offering a 50% discount when two people travel together and share a cabin. The deal is good on select six-night cruises April through August.

According to the Duxbury, Mass.-based operator, the fares range from $3,648 to $4,098 per person, double, compared with normal rates of $7,295 to $8,195. Itineraries take clients along the canals of France, feature Grand and Premier Cru wines and provide "an insider's look into provincial France."

A sample cruise that qualifies for the decreased rate is aboard the 12-passenger, all-suite Adrienne, which sails in Burgundy's fabled Cote d'Or wine-growing region between St. Leger-sur-Dheune and Dijon. Guests visit the wine town of Beaune and its famous 15th century hospice; the medieval Clos de Vougeot; and the historical center of Dijon.

Another option is the eight-passenger Horizon II, which takes in "Historic Burgundy," the route between Tanlay and Veneray-les-Laumes on the Canal de Bourgogne, visiting Auxerre's St. Etienne Cathedral, the Cistercian monastery of Abbaye de Fontenay and the Renaissance chateau of Ancy-le-Franc.
