Madrid's 24th annual Veranos de la Villa, or Summer in the City, celebrations will feature 60 days of music, dance and theater, including many free events for cash-strapped visitors.

Set to run through Aug. 23, the events are headlined by such big-name entertainers as dancers Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sara Baras and musicians James Taylor, Lou Reed and George Benson.

A total of 1,166 performances will include 65 concerts, 50 plays, 30 dance companies, 200 film screenings and two circuses, not to mention dancing in the streets from July 13 to 15.

Venues are scattered throughout the city, and children have their own concurrent puppet festival, called Titirilandia.
