Hawaii Fire damage repaired at Westin Maui restaurant By Shane Nelson / August 23, 2010 Share 1 -- The Westin Maui's Tropicar restaurant received $350,000 worth of enhancements last month during work to repair damage from a small fire in May. Well known for its distinctive beachfront sunset panoramas, Tropica now features an extended seating area with new furniture, thatched outdoor umbrellas, flagstone flooring and additional tiki torches. Along with its impressive views, Tropica is well known for its use of seasonally available Maui produce. "We believe in supporting the local businesses and farmers," explained executive sous chef Rich Hinojosa. "Almost 80% of our menu items are made using local produce." The May fire was likely started by cigarette ashes and was quickly contained, according to news reports.
