Hawaii Grand Wailea will feature new Alan Wong restaurant By Shane Nelson / January 16, 2012 Share 1 -- Renowned Hawaii chef Alan Wong will open his first Maui restaurant this spring at the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. Featuring local Maui products combined with flavors from Asia and elsewhere around the world, Alan Wong’s Amasia will take over the resort’s former Kincha restaurant space. The restaurant will receive a $2 million renovation before reopening as Amasia. “Food brings people together, at the kitchen table or in the plantation fields in many destinations,” Wong said in statement. “I want to create an elevated local interpretation of this cultural exchange.” Wong is a James Beard Award winner and operates two restaurants on Oahu, including his eponymous eatery in Honolulu, a long-time favorite of President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.
