Hawaii resorts, restaurants earn AAA Four- and Five-Diamond honors

By Shane Nelson
The Hotel Travaasa Hana on Maui earned its first AAA Four Diamond rating in the organization’s latest rankings, released Jan. 20.

A total of 16 Hawaii hotels and 11 of the state’s restaurants were honored with AAA Four Diamond ratings, including first-time recognition for Brown’s Beach House restaurant on the Big Island of Hawaii's Kohala Coast.

Two Maui properties, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and the Four Seasons Resort at Wailea, along with the Big Island’s Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, again earned AAA’s coveted Five Diamond rating.

AAA officials said among the more than 31,000 approved and diamond-rated hotels, just 4.8% earned the organization’s Four Diamond award and less than one-third of 1% received AAA’s Five Diamond distinction.
