Hawaiian Airlines passengers can now weigh and tag their own luggage at the carrier’s self-service check-in kiosks at the Honolulu Airport.
Hawaiian said it is the first domestic carrier to implement a completely self-tagging luggage environment at its main hub, estimating the improvement will reduce the time to complete check-in process at the Aloha State’s largest airport to “less than five minutes.”
“Every minute saved in the check-in process improves our customers’ experience substantially, so this is a significant enhancement,” Louis Saint-Cyr, Hawaiian's vice president for customer service, said in a statement. “The kiosks reduced our customers' check-in time to eight minutes. The ability to self-tag bags reduces the check-in time even further, by nearly half.”
Hawaiian debuted the new self-tagging luggage system March 12 at the Honolulu Airport and said it will introduce the service at other airports across the Islands later this year.
Prior to the change, the airline’s passengers using self-service kiosks had to wait for a Hawaiian customer service agent to tag their luggage and complete the check-in process.
Those agents can now focus on travelers with oversize luggage and other special needs but will still be available to assist with the new self-tagging system, according to Hawaiian officials.
