Hawaii Marriott celebrates 'South Pacific' March 30, 2009 Share 1 -- Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach club is offering guests a new Hollywood Meets Kauai Movie Package in honor of the film version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "South Pacific," which marked its 50th anniversary last year. Many scenes from the 1958 Hollywood classic were filmed on location in Kauai. The Garden Isle, in fact, has served as a backdrop for all sorts of blockbusters, including "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Jurassic Park," "Hook" and more recently, "Tropic Thunder." The Hollywood Meets Kauai Movie Package will kick off with a screening of "South Pacific" on April 5, starting at 7 p.m. under the stars at Kalapaki Beach, fronting the Kauai Marriott Resort. The package, which starts at $339, requires a three-night minimum stay and includes daily breakfast for two and a 50th anniversary edition DVD of the movie. Participants also receive a free coastal tour for two with Kauai-based Hawaii Movie Tours (www.hawaiimovietours.com) that includes lunch on the beach at a location used in the film.
