Hawaii Marriott sets June opening for Courtyard at Kahului Airport May 07, 2012 Share 1 -- The 128-room Courtyard Maui Kahului Airport, which broke ground last April, is set to welcome its first guests in June. Situated about a mile from Maui’s Kahului Airport, the 3.35-acre property will feature an outdoor pool; 1,663 square feet of meetings space; a fitness center; complimentary Internet access in each guestroom; and a Bistro restaurant with breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. The new Kahului hotel will be the fourth Marriott Courtyard property in Hawaii, joining the Courtyard King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel on the Big Island, the Courtyard Waikiki Beach and the Courtyard Kauai at Coconut Beach. Go to www.marriott.com. New eatery for Grand WaileaAward-winning chef Alan Wong will open his first Maui restaurant May 25 at the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. Wong’s Amasia is being installed at the resort’s former Kincha restaurant space, now at the tail end of a $2 million renovation. “Food brings people together, at the kitchen table or in the plantation fields in many destinations,” Wong said. “I want to create an elevated local interpretation of this cultural exchange.” A James Beard Award winner, Wong currently runs two restaurants on Oahu, including his eponymous establishment in Honolulu, a longtime favorite of President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. See www.grandwailea.com. New GM announced at Travaasa HanaValley Isle native Danny Mynar took over general manager duties at the 70-room Travaasa Hana property on Maui’s secluded east coast April 9. A third-generation Hana resident, Mynar succeeded Mark Stebbings, who was promoted to managing director and joined the Travaasa Destinations corporate office in Denver. “I’m proud and privileged to have the honor of managing this iconic hotel that has been at the heart of the Hana community and my family for generations,” Mynar said. “As a boy, I would come here to watch my mom sing and entertain guests, so this hotel has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.” Mynar joined the property’s management team in 2002 and most recently served as assistant general manager.
