Hawaii Mele Mei fills the spring with Hawaiian music By Tovin Lapan / April 21, 2017 Share 1 Mele Mei is a three-month program celebrating Hawaiian music, hula and culture sponsored by the Hawaii Academy of Recording Artists. -- The program is set for the seventh annual Mele Mei, a celebration of Hawaiian music, hula and culture that runs through the spring.Live music and hula performances are held from April through June at various hotels, venues and beaches across the state. The acts span a wide spectrum of genres, from ukulele and steel guitar to reggae and rock. More than 80 events are scheduled in all, including biweekly and weekly performances hosted by the Hilton Waikiki Beach, Halekulani, Waikiki Beach Walk, Blue Note Hawaii and Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort.Some of the highlights include the Na Hoku Hanohano awards celebration, now in its 40th year, at the Hawaii Convention Center on May 20 and the Mele Mei Hotel Concert Series held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort Kani Ka Pila Grille, Halekulani and Hyatt Regency Waikiki.
