Hawaii Princeville Ranch Adventures gives visitors a thrill in Kauai By Allan Seiden / May 30, 2007 Share 1 -- There's possibly no place in Hawaii that offers a more varied array of outdoor activities than Kauai's North Shore, and local operator Princeville Ranch Adventures offers a range of unique adventure tours. The 2,500 acres of the Princeville Ranch, an active cattle ranch adjacent to the Princeville at Hanalei resort development, serve as a playground for tours that include hiking, kayaking and zip-lining. I was on time for the 7:30 a.m. rendezvous at PRA's office, conveniently located outside the entrance to the Princeville Resort and easily accessible by car or the Princeville Resort shuttle.I joined eight other clients -- tours include a maximum of 12 people -- on the Jungle Valley Adventure, priced at $135. The 4.5-hour activity is a mix of hiking (short and easy), kayaking (calm waters and simple) and zip-lining (scary for me, exhilarating for others), followed by a swim in a waterfall-fed pool. Lunch was included. Two well-trained and personable guides escorted our group, assuring safety and facilitating transfers to kayaks and zip lines. "This was the best thing we've done on Kauai," one enthused participant later told me after she crossed an 80-foot-deep gorge on a 400-foot-long zip line. The rest of her group of four, all in their 60s, agreed. "It doesn't feel like you're free-falling. It's more like a comfortable glide over the treetops."For those addicted to the adrenalin rush of zip-lining, PRA offers the Zip & Dip, also priced at $135, with eight zip lines, pool swim and lunch. The 3.5-hour Express Zip, at $115, skips the lunch and pool. For those inclined to keep their feet on the ground, the Kalihiwai Waterfall Hike ($129) provides a scenic option. All tours are commissionable to travel agents. Call (808) 826-7669 or visit www.adventureskauai.com. To contact reporter Allan Seiden, send e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
