Waikiki welcomes new wedding chapel

By Shane Nelson

The Moana Surfrider, a Westin resort and spa, opened the doors to Waikiki's first beachfront wedding chapel March 2.

Located on the property's first-floor Diamond Wing, the $3.5 million Moana Chapel already has 420 wedding bookings scheduled for 2010 and is the centerpiece for several of the Moana Surfrider's new wedding-related facilities, including specialized banquet rooms on the first and eighth floors along with a wedding salon on the hotel's second floor.

Designed and constructed by the U.S. mainland firm Arluis Wedding, which will also manage the facility, the Moana Chapel is the newest of several similar business ventures located across Guam and Okinawa owned by the same company.

According to a Moana Surfrider release, the chapel hopes to bring more than 1,200 wedding couples a year to Oahu and generate $10 million in annual sales.
