This property officially became a Crowne Plaza in February 2009. It faces blaring Interstate 610 with mammoth Reliant Stadium in close range, and Shoney's next door.

Obviously a motel in a former life, it maintains much higher standards now, but its roots show in the design, especially from the Kirby side of the property. A fountain with verdigris swans surrounded by lush landscaping is a welcome diversion in this area of fast-moving traffic, concrete and square box buildings. The entrance it...
