Location and History
This six-story rectangular neo-classic edifice was built in 1892 for wealthy passengers arriving on the Orient Express. Istanbul was the final stop on that luxurious Continental train journey.
This is the oldest hotel in all of Turkey, and it was the first one to have modern electricity. It boasts many historic events and firsts, such as the first to have plumbing in Istanbul outside the Sultan's palaces. Nowadays, the Oriental Express Train still runs annually from Paris, and most guests still stay at Pera Palace when they arrive in Istanbul.
