Impressive 17-story Hotel & 31-story Tower (1983) located downtown, overlooking Imperial Palace & Hibiya Park.
Location and History
Ideally situated between Hibiya Park and Ginza, 200 meters southwest of the Hibiya subway station and just minutes from the Marunouchi financial district, this is the capital's best-known hotel, dating from 1890, when it was built at the request of the Imperial family to house the many foreigners flocking to Japan.
Frank Lloyd Wright redesigned the Imperial in 1920, but that building was replaced by the present structure in 1970—hardly a golden age as far as hotel design is concerned—with a 31-story tower added in 1983.
