Once again, Richard Turen has hit it out of the park [Reality Check: "Things that should change in 2013," Jan. 10]. As the parent of an airline pilot with a very expensive, excellent education from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, the segment referencing pilots surely hit home.
Many of my son's friends and my nephew, also a graduate of Embry Riddle, had to leave the industry and find employment that enables them to pay off their college loans.
And as an agent for 22 years, I surely appreciate yet another plea for ASTA, etc., to promote agents, and for cruise lines to realize that reducing our incomes by increasing noncommissionable fees and onboard charges is simply an incentive to sell more land packages, which are far more profitable.
