Graduate of Echols urges re-emphasizing education

I am writing in response to “Evelyn Echols, travel ed veteran, writes to set the record straight” [Letters, Dec. 12].

As a 1981 graduate of the San Francisco branch of Echols International Travel and Hotel School, I agree that we should not forget about education. Today, after 30 years in a family-owned-and-operated agency, the values I learned at Echols have proven invaluable in a business I love so much that I earned my CTC designation and became a life member.

I now serve on the board of the Travel Institute, and I sincerely hope that our industry will continue to value and support the education of young people, so we can further illustrate the merits of this trade to both our fellow travel professionals and consumers alike.
