Turen's column about CNN should be required reading

I want to thank Richard Turen for his analysis of the coverage of the Triumph as it arrived in Mobile, Ala. [Reality Check: "No Triumph for CNN," March 14].

I was aboard Holland America Line's Eurodam that week and watched the entire CNN report until I was afraid I would have to go out and hang my head over the rail to purge myself of the garbage that CNN was feeding the world.

Last evening I watched a similar newscast by a correspondent who was covering the Carnival Dream, the newest bait for these bottom feeders. She reported that the passengers were being held onboard, were locked in and were unable to leave the ship.

Breathless, she then moved on to the Triumph "disaster," followed by a picture of the Costa Concordia lying on its side.

She ended her report by asking, "This is three strikes now -- is Carnival out?"

I have been booking groups on ships since 1980, and some of my best experiences have been on Carnival ships. I am really tired of this cruise line being the whipping boy for those who don't understand the joys of cruising or what it takes to make the experience what it is.

Turen's column should be required reading for every cruise consultant.
