Mexicana Airlines, which suspended all flights last August when it filed for bankruptcy protection, plans to resume service with seven planes and 11 routes by this summer.
Aircraft and routes will increase to 40 aircraft and more than 40 routes by the second half of 2011, according to the carrier’s website.
International A320 routes are likely to include San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Havana as well as the Mexican cities of Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cancun, Oaxaca, Tuxtla Gutierrez and Veracruz.
PC Capital was responsible for raising the money that enabled the carrier to plan its return to the skies. As of the end of January, Mexicana had recertified 38 pilots, 80 flight attendants and 846 maintenance workers.
Since Mexicana stopped flying, several other carriers stepped in with expanded services.
Continental will launch weekly flights from San Antonio and Austin, Texas, and Raleigh/Durham, N.C., to Cancun on Feb. 19.
American and American Eagle started flights from Dallas to Veracruz and Queretaro on Feb. 10.
Aeromexico has added a third daily flight from Houston to Mexico City and increased its flights from four a week to daily between San Antonio and Mexico City.
Mexican carrier VivaAerobus also launched twice-weekly flights from Houston to Monterrey last summer.
