Starwood Hotels & Resorts opened the Aloft Cancun on June 10, its first property in that brand in Mexico.

The 177-room resort is located on Boulevard Kukulcan in Cancun’s hotel zone, adjacent to the Cancun Center, the city’s convention and exhibition venue, and within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

Facilities include the Re:mix communal lobby area, with WiFi; the WXYZ bar; a rooftop pool; gym; meetings space; and the Nuk restaurant.

“This opening is an important step for Starwood as it marks our 29th hotel in Mexico and the entrance of our eighth brand in the country,” said Osvaldo Librizzi, co-president for the Americas.

The Aloft brand debuted in Latin America in 2011 with the Aloft Bogota in Colombia, followed by the Aloft San Jose in Costa Rica.

Currently, there are eight Aloft branded hotels in operation or in development in the region, including the Aloft Panama, which opens later this month.

The Aloft Merida and Aloft Guadalajara are slated to open in Mexico in 2014.

The Aloft Asuncion, Paraguay, and the Aloft Montevideo, Uruguay, will open their doors in 2015.
