Manilow, Temptations return to Vegas; Beyonce may be in talks for show

By Damon Hodge

Legendary singer Barry Manilow has signed on for a two-year, 78-show residency at the Paris Las Vegas hotel-casino, and Motown greats the Temptations will return to the Orleans Showroom for a three-night engagement in January.

Meanwhile, Grammy Award-winning singer Beyonce may be negotiating a long-term residency at Encore Las Vegas, according to published reports. She performed there earlier this year for a taping of a concert DVD.

Manilow's show will open on March 5 at the hotel's Paris Theatre and will be directed by Jeffrey Hornaday, the choreographer whose credits include "Flashdance" and the film version of "A Chorus Line."

It will be Mr. Manilow's second stint on the Las Vegas Strip, after a residency at the Las Vegas Hilton from 2005 to 2008.

In a telephone interview, Manilow said the show would mix standards by songwriters, including Irving Berlin and Johnny Mercer, with Manilow's hits like "Mandy" and "Copacabana."

"Come opening night, it'll probably be all different," he said. "But that's what it is today."

The Temptations will bring classic Motown to the Orleans Showroom Jan. 22 through 24, with shows starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced from $34.95, plus tax, and can be purchased by calling the box office at (702) 365-7075 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com.
