The September 11 Memorial Museum at the site of the World Trade Center in New York plans to charge an admission fee when it opens next spring.
Entry to the memorial plaza with its twin reflecting pools will continue to be free.
The memorial foundation's board of directors voted to charge an admission fee to cover the operating costs of the memorial and the museum. The price has not been set, but it will range between $20 and $25, according to a spokesman for the 9/11 Memorial.
Discounts for students and seniors will be offered, and the museum will be free of charge during certain hours every week.
Family members of 9/11 victims will be exempt from the fees and charges.
The museum will house relics of the 9/11 attacks.
The memorial plaza opened in 2011 on the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks.
