Sequestration forces air show cancellation

By JoAnna Haugen
Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas has canceled its annual Aviation Nation airshow, scheduled for Nov. 9 and 10, due to budget cuts tied to sequestration. Historically, Aviation Nation has been an opportunity for the public to see equipment and aircraft and enjoy fly-over events by the Thunderbirds F-16 Fighting Falcons. The popular show has been a tradition since 1952.

The Air Force generally spends about $300,000 to hold the Nellis open house and host the Aviation Nation show. Last year, it drew a crowd of 135,000 people, including 21,060 out-of-towners.
