Universal Orlando to re-create hometown of 'The Simpsons'

|

rendering of Springfield area at Universal OrlandoA new Simpsons-themed area modeled after the cartoon family’s hometown, Springfield, will be unveiled at the Universal Orlando Resort this summer.

Anchored by The Simpsons Ride, which opened in 2008, the Springfield area will include a Fast Food Boulevard, where guests can visit Moe’s Tavern, Krusty Burger, Luigi’s Pizza, the Frying Dutchman (for seafood) and the Lard Lad doughnut shop.

Duff Beer, brewed just for Universal Orlando, will be served.

The Springfield area will feature a new attraction, Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl, which “will take foolish humans on an intergalactic spin designed to send them into orbit,” according to Universal.

Two Simpsons characters will make their debut in the new area: Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob.

This will be the first time the fictional town of Springfield has been re-created.

Created by Matt Groening, "The Simpsons" just completed its 24th season on Fox.
