Avalon Waterways has partnered with Peruvian company Aqua Expeditions to charter the 32-passenger Aria on the Peruvian Amazon starting in 2014.

Avalon has introduced an 11-day itinerary that includes a three-night cruise from Iquitos, Peru. The Aria will cruise through the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.

The itinerary begins with two days in Lima, followed by a flight to Cusco for four days of visiting the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. On day seven of the trip, passengers will fly to Iquitos to board the Aria.

The cruise will include piranha fishing, wildlife viewing, a visit to a local village and experiencing the Yanalipa Flooded Forest.

The Aria is the newest ship in Aqua Expeditions’ two-vessel fleet. It was built in 2011 and features 16 suites at 250 square feet each.

In addition to the 32 passengers, the ship carries 24 staff, including a cruise director and four naturalist guides. Each suite features a large picture window with outside-facing beds.

Avalon is offering 13 departures of the Peru itinerary in 2014, and five departures in 2015. It is priced between $5,599 and $5,999 per person, based on double occupancy.
