Bringing Club Med to Windstar

Word has it that Windstar Cruises might be looking to expand its fleet, with the possible acquisition of the Club Med I.

That would complement the line’s flagship Wind Surf, which is the former Club Med II.

TC happened to be aboard the Wind Surf this month and learned that one of the ship’s senior officers revealed the plan during a casual conversation with a handful of passengers.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Windstar has indicated an interest in the Club Med I. The last time was in 2007, the same year that Ambassadors International bought the line from Holland America Line, the officer noted.

And now, Windstar is under the new ownership of Xanterra Parks & Resorts. Could it be that each new owner sees the logic in adding the Wind Surf’s sister ship to the fleet? It seems so, but Windstar management has so far kept mum about the idea.
