Getting political at WTTC

It sure sounded like an endorsement to TC. In remarks at the start of last week’s World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Japan, which took place in Sendai and then Tokyo, the organization’s CEO, David Scowsill, shared credit with U.S. Travel for progress by the Obama administration on visa and travel-related policy.

After pointing out that the president became more engaged with travel policy following last year’s summit in Las Vegas, which was attended by two of his Cabinet secretaries and a senior adviser, Scowsill said: “Let’s hope that he”  — i.e., Obama — “is still around after November. Otherwise we’ll have to start all over with someone else.”
