American Airlines has a systemwide ground delay in place until 5 p.m. Eastern, according to the airline's Twitter account and website.
Outages
are related to the carrier's inability to access its reservation system
and are affecting domestic and international flights. The problem is
not related to the bombings in Boston.
Many passengers are stuck
on planes while others sit in airports. Passengers are using social
media to flood the airline with complaints.
"We are working to
resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We apologize to our customers
for any inconvenience," the carrier tweeted.
AA said on its website, "If your travel plans are flexible, there will be no charge if you would like to change your reservation and we will provide full refunds if your travel plans are not flexible. However, we are unable to make changes to current travel plans until we have resolved this issue.
