Allegiant to serve both Orlando airports

By Michael Fabey

Allegiant Air will start a new base Feb. 1 at Orlando International Airport, moving part of its operations from Orlando Sanford.

After the move, the airline will serve 10 cities form Orlando International and 21 from Sanford.

Allegiant is shifting some of its business to Orlando International to make it easier for passengers on those flights to get to the area’s theme parks and to make the carrier move competitive.

"It allows us to be responsive to the many Orlando travelers who prefer the proximity of Orlando International to the most prominent attractions in the Orlando area, including, most obviously, Walt Disney World," said Robert Ashcroft, Allegiant's vice president of planning.
