American Airlines' operations were almost back to normal on Wednesday, following a systemwide ground delay on Tuesday that affected its entire fleet, more than 930 flights and thousands of passengers.
Schedules still are uneven at Chicago O'Hare, where 100 flights were canceled Wednesday morning due to weather problems and logistics with crew and aircraft repositioning, according to a statement on AA's website.
The carrier is adding flights in some markets to help get stranded travelers to their destinations.
CEO Tom Horton issued an apology from AA's operations control center in Dallas Tuesday night, saying that the carrier had experienced a "software issue that impacted both our primary and backup systems."
Passengers were offered options for refunds and rebookings without fees.
