American fills gaps left by Mexicana

By Jerry Limone

With Oneworld partner Mexicana suspending operations last month, American Airlines and American Eagle will take the opportunity to add Mexico flights.

On Nov. 18, American will add one daily flight on the Dallas-Mexico City and Miami-Mexico City routes, for a total of four and three daily roundtrips, respectively. On Dec. 16, it will begin operating once-daily Mexico City-Chicago O’Hare service.

Also, American will add a daily weekday flight for Miami-Cancun on Feb. 10, for a total of five every day of the week.

American Eagle plans to start serving Queretaro and Veracruz from Dallas on Feb. 10. On Dec. 16, it will increase Dallas-Leon service from three to four daily flights.

American Eagle will add a second daily roundtrip between Dallas and Aguascalientes on Nov. 18.

Also on Nov. 18, the mainline carrier will assume operations of Eagle’s twice-daily Dallas-Guadalajara service. On Dec. 16, one more daily flight will be added, which Eagle will operate.

In addition, American intends to codeshare with Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air this year on several Mexico routes from California cities, including eight from Los Angeles.
