American to cease New York-Tokyo Narita service

By Jerry Limone
When American Airlines resumes flying between New York and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on June 1, the carrier will cancel New York service to Tokyo’s Narita Airport.

Japan Airlines, American’s transpacific joint-venture partner, will continue to operate daily service between New York and Tokyo Narita.

Narita is the larger international airport in Tokyo, but Haneda is much closer to central Tokyo.

Last September, American suspended New York-Tokyo Haneda service because demand fell following last March’s earthquake and tsunami.

The New York route was one of four Haneda routes awarded to U.S. airlines in 2010, after the U.S. and Japan signed an open-skies pact.

  • Consumer media discover that travel agents do exist

"Contrary to some thoughts, travel agents do exist ... We are usually able to get clients better prices, and we know we can see that clients have better experiences. And as our personal motto is: Our Service Travels With You."
