Mazatlan MexicoCalJet, a charter carrier operated by Idaho-based XTRA Airways, will launch seasonal flights to Mazatlan, Mexico, from five U.S. gateways this winter.

The flights meet the growing demand for air service to the destination, according to the Mexico Tourism Board.

The nonstop flights will operate twice a week from Jan. 9 to April 9 from Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and Oakland, Calif. A weekly flight will be offered from San Antonio.

The total number of weekly seats aboard 737-400 aircraft will be 1,350.

The government of the state of Sinaloa, where Mazatlan is located, invested $2 million in marketing funds to promote the new service.
