Delta suspends New York-Athens winter service

Athens will have no transatlantic service this winter following Delta's suspension of New York service from Oct. 28 to March 23.

It will be the first time in nearly 70 years that there will be no direct air link between Greece and the United States.

In 2009, stricken state-owned carrier Olympic Air withdrew from the Greece-U.S. market, with Continental Airlines following.

US Airways continues to offer daily Philadelphia-Athens service between May and September.
